Tony Chien

We are pleased to announce that Tony Chien, D.O., has joined the staff of the Bone and Joint Institute. Dr. Chien has spent the last 14 years in different areas of the Midwest and looks forward to working in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. He is moving to St. Louis with his wife and two children.

Dr. Chien graduated Cum Laude from the University of California at Los Angeles where he majored in Biology. In 1998 he graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. Dr. Chien completed his Internship and Orthopedic Residency at Bi-County Community Hospital in the Henry Ford Health System in Warren, Michigan.

Dr. Chien went to work for two years as an Orthopedic Surgeon at OSF Saint James Medical Center in Pontiac, Michigan. He then moved with his family to Grand Forks, North Dakota and began work at Altru Hospital.

His wife has now completed her Family Medicine Residency at Altru Hospital. Dr. Chien is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. He has extensive experience in all aspects of General Orthopedics including Total Joint Replacement, Trauma, Foot & Ankle, Hand and Sports Medicine. His passion, however, is Spine Surgery.

Dr. Chien is dedicated to the treatment of lower back pain and will be providing a wide variety of spine procedures for all of his patients, both noninvasive and invasive. His interests include herniated disc, osteoporosis, spinal stenosis, fractures, and degenerative conditions of the lumbar spine. Acute and chronic lower back pain will be controlled with multiple conservative approaches and with minimally invasive treatments. He will also provide fusion and reconstruction of unstable spine.

Dr. Chien will also be treating bone and joint problems, sports injuries and all orthopedic trauma. Dr. Chien will conduct a thorough examination after which he will have an extended discussion with each patient and their family members. Only then will he decide the course of treatment that would best suit each patient to achieve the best possible outcome.

We look forward to a very long relationship with Dr. Chien as a part of the Bone and Joint Institute. We hope you will help us in welcoming him to our practice and to the St. Louis area.
